The accelerated reading program is designed to encourage students to read books at their level or above. The books are offered in the schools library and are coded as to various levels.
With the cooperation of the Claymont Public Library and the Tuscarawas County Public Library, the students may also use public facilities to earn points for this particular program.
The program not only encourages students to read, but it is also a way to check student comprehension. Upon completion of a book, the student must pass a comprehension test to earn points set for that book.
The staff, Home and School Association and administration have developed a reward system for those students participating in the program.
At the present time, the program has been implemented into grades 1-4 and has been very successful. The Kindergarten classes begin implementing the program during the second semester.
