Eric Toukonen begins his 31st season as head coach of the Mustangs. His wrestling career began as a junior high and high school wrestler at Jefferson Area High School. After graduation in 1972, Eric attended Kent State University where he was a a member of the Kent State wrestling team.

His first coaching job was at Garretsville High School where he was assistant coach. From there, Eric taught and coached two years at Steubenville Harding Junior High. In 1979, Eric was hired as an assistant coach at Claymont High School and in 1983, was hired as the head coach of the Mustangs. Since then his teams have won 25 sectional/district titles, 11 district/regional titles, 20 conference titles (16 straight from 1990-2004), in 2009 were State Runners-up and in 1992 won the school's first state wrestling title.

Coach Toukonen has been nominated conference "Coach of the Year" six times and Eastern/Southeastern District "Coach of the Year" eight times, but he is most proud of being named Ohio "Coach of the Year" in 1992 after his team won the state title in the same year. Eric has also been named the "Outstanding Coach" at the Alliance "Top Gun" Tournament two times.

Eric has a dual meet record of 258 wins and 68 losses under a schedule that has his teams facing some of the best teams in the state of Ohio. Eric is the former President of the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association and served on the National Federation of State High School Associations Wrestling Rules Committee. Coach Toukonen was the first person from Ohio in over 30 years to serve on this committee. In 2004 Coach Toukonen was elected into the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in recognition of his accomplishments as a coach.

Eric and his wife Lexine have two children, a son, Kayne, and a daughter, Britni.

Coach Chett Peters, Assistant Coach. Chett Peters begins his 17th year as a coach for the Mustangs. In his first four years, Coach Peters did an outstanding job of working as a junior high coach and in the past 12 years, has done an outstanding job of working with the upper weight classes on the Varsity level.

An 189 lb. high school wrestler, Chett's experience as an upper weight wrestler has really helped our program. Coach Peters was a 2 time state qualifier and a member of the 1991 team that went 17-0 and was ranked #1 ain the state of Ohio. Chett and his wife Bethanie have 2 children - a son, Lane and a daughter, Sage.

Brett Peters, Assistant Coach. Coach Brett Peters begins his 24th season as a coach for the Mustangs. A long time assistant on Coach Toukonen's staff, Brett's work on technique with the Junior High and High School wrestlers has really helped in coordinating the two programs into one.

Coach Brett's work in the corner (coaching) has also been a key reason why our wrestling program is one of the top programs in the state of Ohio. A 2-time state qualifier and a 1-time state placer, Brett brings an intensity into our practice room that carries over into our matches. Coach Brett and his wife Lisa have 3 sons, Rexx, Maxx, and Daxx, and a daughter Lexx.

Travis Poland, Jr. High Coach. Travis Poland begins his 12th year as a junior high coach for the Mustangs. A former state qualifier for Claymont, Travis attended Heidelberg University where he had a very successful wrestling career and was also named captain his senior year for the Heidelberg team.

Coach Poland teaches History at our high school. A quality person, Coach Poland brings a toughness to our junior high wrestling team that will help our young wrestlers in their difficult matches. This past season Coach Poland's team was undefeated, won all their tournaments, including the ECOL Championship. Travis and his Tiffany, have one son, Kael and a daughter, Brinley.

Bob Johnson, Jr. High Coach. Coach Bob Johnson begins his 13th season as a Junior High Coach for the Mustangs. After several years of retirement, Bob returned to bring back a winning attitude to the Junior High program.

Over the years Coach Johnson has enjoyed many seasons as league champions and has had numerous undefeated teams. Last year was no exception as the young Mustangs went undefeated in Tournaments and in Dual Meets. Again, Coach Johnson displayed a special way in which he communicated with his young athletes. Bob and his wife Mary have 2 sons, Todd and Trent and a daughter, Jennifer

Kyle Warner. Kyle begins his first year as an assistant coach for the Mustangs. A very technical wrestler, Kyle's knowledge of the sport will greatly help the Mustangs this season.

tyler2Tyler Abbuhl. Tyler begins his second year as an assistant coach for the Mustangs. A 3-year letterman for Claymont Wrestlng.Tyler has the patience and knowledge to help our younger wrestlers with their wrestling skills.

Tyler currently teaches Health and Physical Education at Claymont High School and is married to Molly Benedum.

Coach Mike Trimmer. Mike Trimmer begins his 32nd season as a volunteer coach for the Mustangs. Mike has been very instrumental in working with wrestlers in the off season by assisting Coach Toukonen with off season tournaments, traveling to Solon High School for summer workouts, running off season weight lifting and by helping with summer camps at Claymont.

Coach Trimmer also paints all the Claymont Wrestling signs. The beautiful state championship sign that hangs in the gym was painted by Coach Tri8mmer. Mike and his wife Marla have 2 sons, Matt and Dane and have 2 daughters, Evan and Reagan.

Jamie Warner. Jamie Warner begins his 8th year as a volunteer junior coach for the Mustangs. A member of the 1991 team that was ranked #1 in the state, Jamie worked many years with our youth and novice wrestlers and spent a great deal of time traveling with our youth wrestlers to various tournaments. Last year Jamie did an outstanding job of working with our undefeated Junior High Team.

Jamie and his wife Chasity have 4 sons, Kyle, Dustin, Tyle, and Kashton and one daughter Taylor. Jamie also has one son Darran.

Brian Cadle. Brian begins his first year as an assistant coach for the Mustangs. An experienced wrestling coach, Coach Cadle's love for the sport will surely be a big plus for our program this year. Brian and his wife Laura have 2 children, a son Neil and a daughter Madison.
